Firstly, thanks for taking the time to stop by our site, and this page in general. It really means a lot to have people visit, and share our ideas and philosophy about what the SCA means to us.
Hmm. when asked to put my SCA experiences into words - my head fills so fast with images, it's hard to express. Let me see, however, if I can try to relate some of what this hobby means to me, in 50 words (or less....)
What we do is, in my opinion, the personification of what modern day life should be. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that we should all wear Doublets and Hose, or Sari's, or Tudor. However, we *should* embrace the tenets of Honor, Chivalry and Courtesy. We *should* make these things a non-disposable aspect of our daily lives. The SCA makes that all real, and that, in a nutshell, is why I like it so much.
(Okay.... 78 or so....but hell, I talk too much anyway.... :))
So, what do I do in real life? I do e-commerce development. That's right, a full time internet junkie. I currently geek in the heart of Silicon Valley, so I'm an expatriate Lost Boy, but I try to come and visit whenever possible. For me, the 'boys are *family*, and one should never be too far away from people that you care about. In addition, even though I love California, there'll always be a part of me that longs for Minnesota. The air is too clean, the people are too friendly, and, you know - the snow ain't all that bad, either. I'll probably see about buying some land or something out there someday.
In the SCA, my persona is a 13th century Moorish woodsman currently serving in the Forests outside Nottingham. I do a variety of things in the SCA, and I travel a lot to go to events all over the country. Probably the only big wars I haven't been to are Visby in Europe and Lilies in Calontir, and I definitely plan on making those someday. My favorite war besides Pennsic has to be Gulf Wars. I'm certainly planning to go to that again, as it was just way too much fun to miss. The West has lots of events, and I try to make a good majority of them(Definitely all the major events (Crown, Coronet, etc.) and even a good number of the small ones.
In addition to fighting, I do dancing, singing, poetry, brewing and whatever else takes my fancy. I believe in being a well rounded person, and besides, my Knight, Duke Stephen of Beckenham, would kick my fanny if I didn't, he being a Duke, Laurel, and all around fop. The picture on the left over there is a shot taken at an event in the Middle Kingdom. (In the West, squires don't wear chains of fealty) In any case - I've probably taken up far too much of your time already. If you want to know more about me - visit my personal site at www.rustmon.org, or drop me a line at email@example.com. I hope you enjoyed your visit here, and be sure to drink a kammie for us.
One last bit of info: It's okay to drink stuff on fire, as long as it hasn't been microwaved first.
